What Weighted Sense Is All About
If you’ve ever wondered ‘Is there a product that could naturally make me sleep better?’ or ‘My autistic child finds it so hard to calm down, is there a therapeutic aid that could help them to naturally relax?’, Weighted Sense offers research backed information and product recommendations to help you make informed choices on which weighted blanket or aid is likely to suit you, or your child, best.
How Weighted Sense Helps You Make Informed Choices
It’s so easy to say to someone with sleep or anxiety issues, ‘Oh get a weighted blanket, it will help you relax and get better sleep.’
But it’s not always that simple.
I learned the hard way that the ‘wrong’ weighted product won’t help much.
I’m very sensitive to noise (the technical name is Misophonia) and it can prove really debilitating on a day to day basis. People who aren’t sensitive to noise can’t understand why I get so agitated at repetitive loud noises, building work, loud sirens or radios, or someone sniffing endlessly on a bus! So I tend to keep quiet about it.
Not very much is known about Misophonia but it is now recognised as a sensory disorder. And it can put your nervous system under a lot of stress.
So I invested in a weighted blanket to help relax my nervous system. But guess what?
The blanket was SO noisy. I know. You couldn’t make it up.
I found the constant rustle of poly pellets annoying. Plus the non cotton cover was also making me too hot.
And then…the beads starting leaking. Cue weighted blanket disaster…
So I embarked upon some extensive research on weighted blankets and soon realised there’s never a ‘one size fits all’.
And that’s where Weighted Sense comes in.
This website is where I lay out research backed information on the benefits of different types of weighted blankets and weighted aids for specific needs, issues or conditions.
My aim is to cut out the ‘fluff’ and sales pitch. Just offer accessible information that helps you make informed decisions.
What Happened To My Noisy Weighted Blanket?
Well, I switched to a more breathable cotton weighted blanket with secure stitching, more pockets and glass beads. And the outcome was very different. I’d found the blanket for me.
In fact, I’d take it to the cinema if I could (all that eating and rustling), but my daughter won’t let me.
